Seneca Regional Planning Director, Charlene Watkins, Resigns

Charlene Watkins informed the Executive Committee of the Board of Seneca Regional Planning Commission of her intention to resign as the Executive Director during their bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, with Friday being her last day with the office.

 Watkins started her career with the Seneca Regional Planning Commission in April 2016.  During her tenure, she was the driving force behind the Multi-Jurisdictional Comprehensive Plan for Seneca County, City of Tiffin, City of Fostoria and Seneca Parks.  She also steered the creation of the Active Transportation Plan, the Seneca County Building Master Plan, the Seneca County Transportation Improvement Priority Plan and the City of Tiffin Transit Bus Plan.  Charlene also facilitated the revision of the Subdivision Regulations that are pending public hearings with the Seneca County Board of Commissioners and the Seneca Regional Planning Commission.

 During Ms. Watkins’ eight years of service to Seneca County, she has applied for and received more than five million dollars in grants to support the townships, villages and municipalities of Seneca County.  Some of the projects include the upgrades to Melmore Park, the Attica Area Veteran’s Memorial Park, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for the City of Tiffin and the City of Fostoria, assisting with the Opportunity Park, Homelessness Prevention and Ohio Public Works Commission funds to improve township roads.  

 “After much reflection and with a heavy heart, I have decided to resign from my position as Executive Director.  It has been an incredible journey working alongside such dedicated colleagues and witnessing the growth and improvements of Seneca County,” Watkins said. “I am grateful for the opportunities and support I have received during my tenure. I will miss working with the dedicated public figures of Seneca County and supporting all fifteen of our townships, six villages, two municipalities and the county.”

 Watkins is unable to disclose her next destination but rest assured, she will continue to pursue her passion for public service and community development.
